A mere 45 minutes drive from our holiday cottages, Keswick is the perfect spot for a day trip or night out. In the North West of the UK and within the Lake District National Park it's surrounded by fabulous walks including Skiddaw, Blenclathra and the popular Catbells. Guests who prefer the gentle lapping of water can enjoy Derwentwater which is at the top of the town where guests can hire boats or enjoy a cruise on the Lake via https://keswick-launch.co.uk/cruises/

Keswick is often bustling and busy so a great option is to stay a short drive away so you can enjoy the town but also retreat and get away from the crowds!

We often enjoy nights in Keswick and shows at Theatre by the Lakes which sits in a picturesque position on the edge of Derwentwater. This blog is about my recent night out in Keswick. Read on to be inspired for things to do!

Before hitting the show a visit to the Fellpack for a pre dinner is a must! It has to be our favourite restaurant in the town and was a finalist in Cumbria Guide's restaurant of the year.

On the way to the theatre it's great choice for a bite before a show. For a couple try and bag the bay window seat to enjoy your meal while watching the world go by!

The Fellpack has a great menu of super tasty fusion dishes which make a nice change from the usual pub grub. Can recommend the onion bhaji and seasoned cashews off the starters and the burrito bowls and the ramen noodles in a deeply flavoured broth with the tenderest pork slices for mains!

This time, I had the most succelent chicken in a tasty crispy garlic crumb with pickles & saute potatoes in a creamy sauce. Yum!

Finishing off our main with the brownie dessert, it had various textures with a biscuit crumb and sharp sour cherries. Most of the desserts were also gluten free whichnwas great to see.

The best start to our evening and our meal was excellent value at just over £70 for two, which included a lovely glass of Malbec for myself and a pint for my husband.

Next a short walk to the theatre. It's a small venue which packs a punch with its decor, bar, small shop and selection of shows.

We were there to see the fantastic one woman musical Black is the Color of My Voice which charts the life of Nina Simone

Sitting up in the circle we had a clear view of the stage and being a smaller venue we still felt close enough to the stage.

Waiting for the show to start!

And what a show it was! Charting the life of Nina Simone it was a fabulous insight to her life as a singer, civil rights activist and America's dark history of racial inequality. We left the show singing along to her jazz inspired melodies and with a deep appreciation of her talents and achievements.

Returning to the quiet of home a short drive away we're already looking forward to our next visit to Keswick!
